Why Join FourJaw?
FourJaw is a Venture Capital backed tech start-up, driving step-changes in manufacturing productivity by combining Internet of Things (IoT) sensors on the shop floor with big-data analytics in the cloud.
We believe raising productivity is about much more than just statistics. It is about improving people’s lives and livelihoods; raising aspiration and ambition, and creating a long-term future for our manufacturing industry and the people it supports.
Having spun out the core technology from the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, FourJaw has secured sizeable seed investment and is now looking to grow its team with an exciting new strategy to enable rapid growth.
The FourJaw vision is to be recognised as THE smart factory leader.
1. Manufacturers come first; everything we do starts and ends with manufacturers in mind
2. Be the best, collectively; we’re here to succeed as a business, as a team and as individuals
3. Change things for the better; boosting productivity will have an impact far beyond the shop floor
With these values in mind, we are looking for someone who is willing to challenge themselves and their comfort zones; get involved with various aspects of the business; constantly learn and improve; be an excellent team player; and above all else, share in our passion to make a positive change in the world of manufacturing!
We are a small but rapidly growing team so get in early, create a big impact within an exciting tech startup, and grow your career with us!
Your personal qualities
You must be an individual who relishes the challenge of working in a tech start-up – you’ll work with diverse technologies and be comfortable with both existing codebases and blank slate projects alike.
You’ll be keen to adapt and learn as the business scales, and as the dev team grows.
You’ll have the ability to understand and manage a software architecture at the top level, whilst being happy to dive down into the specifics of the source code and get involved in the details.
You’ll enjoy implementing software best practice with an eye for simplicity, consistent architectural patterns and clean, well-tested code.
You will be a resilient and enthusiastic person, comfortable working independently as well as part of a team. You’ll be able to plan and manage well to deliver quality software on time.
You will be an effective team player who actively develops and supports team members.
What you'll work on
Developing and deploying containerised apps using Linux Docker containers and Docker Compose.
Building front-end visualisations that turn complex manufacturing activities into clear and insightful graphics.
Working with a MongoDB database to create models, maintain schemas and apply migrations.
Writing robust tests that integrate into a CI/CD pipeline
Provisioning, using and managing cloud resources in Microsoft Azure
Participating in and managing the version control process using GitHub
About the Role
FourJaw is looking for a mid-senior level software developer to join our growing development team.
This is a chance to get into an early-stage technology start-up, using your technical skills to design, develop and deploy IoT and data analytics technology into the world of manufacturing.
You will likely start out home working, before transitioning to working (at least partially) in the company’s Sheffield office once Covid-19 restrictions allow. You will report directly to the company CTO, and will work alongside other members of the FourJaw development team to create, test and ship features across the tech stack.
We are looking for someone with ambition and drive, who would like to quickly grow their career as the business scales. We’ll look to you not only for technical excellence, but to be a source of experience and best practice within a growing dev team.
Using your understanding of the top-level architectural patterns, you’ll know the correct balance between a pure implementation and a pragmatic approach, and will be able to advise others on the tradeoff.
This role does not come with any line-management responsibilities, but in a growing start-up, there are always opportunities to take on managerial responsibilities if you’d like to.
The Tech Stack
You’ll be involved in all parts of our cloud-based manufacturing analytics platform, from data acquisition and fleet management using our edge devices through to data ingestion, cloud analytics and front-end visualisations.
Our tech stack uses Python for backend analytics, domain modelling and to serve our web dashboard. We use MongoDB for data persistence and rely on Docker and Linux in both development and production. Our cloud provider of choice is Microsoft Azure and we also have dependencies on .NET, embedded Linux and C++ for specific data-acquisition scenarios.
Experience developing backend Python using Flask, Django or similar frameworks
Familiarity with NoSQL databases, such as MongoDB
Comfort using Linux, bash scripting and Docker
Experience using version control (ideally Git) in a collaborative environment
Experience working within the industry of manufacturing technology, Industry 4, Internet of Things, data analytics.
